Avi Sheehan is a lighting designer, educator, and artist originally from Baltimore, MD, currently based out of Montpelier, VT. They have an MFA in Stage Design, with a concentration in Lighting from Northwestern University.
Artistic Philosophy:
"I am inspired by the use of unique materials and the materiality of objects, by movement, and by music. When those three elements are in concert, I feel reverent. Lighting design is a choreography of where to look, when to look, how to feel, and what to think. In using attention, intentionally, I can help guide an audience towards meaning.
As a lighting designer, I am a painter and sculptor of light, pushing and pulling it across time and bodies to create focus and meaning. Light is my medium and can exist on its own, but never better is it then in a dance with a body. I prefer to work in collaboration with other artists, creating work that speaks as one."
